Annie Ford.

Counselling, EMDR Therapy & Supervision Services.

Professional, Confidential and Discreet Counsellor based in Mid Devon & Online U.K.

Thank you for visiting my website, it takes courage to take that first step to see a Counsellor. Are you feeling stuck ? or perhaps finding life a bit overwhelming right now. Counselling offers a safe, confidential space to work through what is troubling you.

As an experienced BACP Accredited Counselling professional, I offer a calm, supportive, non-judgemental and discreet space for you to explore what is important to you right now in your life, building on your self-awareness and resilience.

Counselling helps us to explore how situations and life experiences impact on us, and from that awareness, allowing new possibilities to emerge and the changes you want to take place. As an experienced counsellor, I will work with you to strengthen your resilience, build on strategies to achieve balance and wellbeing in your life.

Outdoor Spaces  - EcoTherapy

"Working outdoors in nature has been liberating, working through my sadness, anxiety, stress and difficult relationships in a calm space, finding my mojo again"

My Counselling Approaches

As an Integratively trained Counsellor, I have trained extensively in Person Centred, Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapies (CBT), EMDR Therapy and Professional Coaching. I tailor counselling sessions to meet your individual needs at your pace.

I work face to face in my office, outdoors ( ecotherapy ) and online via zoom.

I have also trained in General Nursing and Midwifery and have worked as an advanced Nurse Practitioner in Womens health and Oncology. I find my clinical knowledge helps in my practice, understanding the complexity of conditions and the impacts clients and their loved ones face.

in 2020 I trained as an EMDR Therapist, I successfully integrate this into my work, enabling clients to understand their triggers and ways of reacting and responding in certain situations. EMDR Therapy is a relatively new therapy developed in the 1980s by Dr Shapiro. Evidence shows EMDR is an effective treatment for anxiety, stress, panic, phobias, PTS, PTSD etc. The focus of the work is to reduce distress in the shortest period of time. As an EMDR Therapist, I support clients with a whole range of stress and anxiety related issues.

Counselling will help you to gain new insights and self-awareness, you will learn how to manage your wellbeing outside of the therapy room. Learning to understand your stressors, understanding the impacts on your life is empowering. With this new awareness, you can move forward with renewed energy.

To complement my work, I teach mindfulness; research shows it helps to slow the mind, grounding you in the NOW, enhancing your overall wellbeing.

I integrate mindfulness, relaxation and imagery on a two day residential "Living Well" with cancer retreat. Helping participants and their partners understand the impact of their stress responses, managing that and learning to selfcare.

Issues I work with

Overwhelm, anxiety, feeling sad, depression, panic, stress, bereavement, loss and unhealthy relationships. I find the issues clients bring to counselling are as individual as they are.

Professionally I also work with clients experiencing long term health conditions, including cancer (all stages), other neurological and immunological conditions as well as long term covid and birthing trauma.

Life changes or transitions can cause stress, we all manage it differently. This can impact on our health, relationships and balance e.g. stress related to weddings, divorce, separation, menopause, infertility, becoming a new parent, retirement, relocation to a new area, university life, career or work situations etc. Sometimes clients have experienced an assault or witnessed situations outside their window of tolerance, each client is unique, therapy offers a safe, calm space to talk it through.

Personal and private issues can be difficult to express to friends and family. Our work will help you to move towards accepting and supporting yourself without fear of judgement.

Professional Supervision

As a Supervisor for counsellors, I currently work with qualified counsellors counselling students within placement, and other professionals requiring supervisory support.
