Counselling

As a Counsellor, I specialise in transition, change, loss, grief and bereavement. I work with clients on the issues they bring to the room. I take referrals from private clients, EAPs ( Employment Assisted Programmes) and GPs.

As an integratively trained counsellor, I use a range of specialist skills, helping clients to make the changes they want in their lives.

Person Centred Therapy (PCT) counselling does not give direction or offer solutions to problems, it aims to help clients understand their needs and to find ways of meeting those needs more effectively.

Psychodynamic Counselling looks at the influence of the past and at recurring patterns in clients lives.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) looks at ways that thoughts, behaviours and feelings affect us all and how they can be changed to solve problems. I am currently completing an advanced training Diploma  in CBT at Dartmoor College.

Existential Counselling explores difficulties from a philosophical perspective; rather than using a technique-based approach, it focuses on the client as a whole, encouraging clients to take responsibiity for their successes. Rather than delving into the past, it looks at the here and now.

Issues I work with include bereavement, grief, loss, change, transition and health concerns like anxiety, stress, panic attacks, depression and relationships problems. Work also supports clients with a new cancer diagnosis and ongoing emotional needs. I also work with clients who are concrend about infertility or coping with a diagnosis of HIV.

I also work with employment related issues such as stress, change, overload and coping with work place bullying and harrassment.

As a counsellor I offer an open space for each client "the issues they bring are as unique as they are". I work gently to enhance each clients wellbeing, resilience and quality of life.

Coaching

Coaching is a recognised motivational and behaviour change approach. It helps with physical and emotional resilence to deal with life's  challenges whilst developing self awareness and self care strategies.

To date I have worked with clients on a one-to-one basis ( and small groups), dealing with a range of life changing issues at work and at home, as well as supporting senior management and executives on performance, self awareness and self care.

When working with clients together we explore what will serve their needs, at their pace. I work with clients who set goals for improved wellbeing and enhanced life changes.

Supervision

Supervision in practice is an important part of establishing and maintaining an ethical counselling practice and safeguarding clients. It really helps to make sense of our professional work, standing back, reflecting and learning about our styles, approaches and theoretical preferences. The supervisory space is a place to pay attention to one’s practice and one’s self.

As an integrative practitioner I integrate humanistic and psychodynamic approaches in my work as well as coaching, NLP and mindfulness skills in my group facilitation sessions.

I work 1:1 and in groups as a supervisor in a range of settings including my calm studio in Mid Devon.
